Kindling maker extraordina! Well, It's a toss up, I use this for limbing felled trees, trimming them up, and then making kindling. Not really sure sure which takes more hours. That said, I have gotten lots of hours on this axe and shall continue to do so.
This is slightly heavier than a hatchet and definitely longer, thus, more powerful. Being more powerful than a hatchet yet smaller than a 3/4 axe, it is a great choice for backpacking.
This length is referred to as 1/2 axe. Don't think of it as only being useful for chopping. The Hudson Bay design, and the size of this axe, make it useful for some tasks that were typically considered as a knife chore.
